Detroit and Arizona are opening their 2019 seasons against one another at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday at State Farm Stadium. Detroit struggled last season, ending up 6-10. Likewise, coming off of an uninspired 3-13 last-season record, Arizona has set their aspirations higher this year.

The point spread is more or less neutral, so fans should expect a close game. We’ll see if the game is as close as the oddsmakers expect, or if one of these teams has a surprise blowout in them.

The Arizona Cardinals host the Detroit Lions to open the 2019 regular season
It’s been over eight months since the Arizona Cardinals last left us losing in the last seconds against the Seattle Seahawks. Now with a new coach, new quarterback, and a lot more optimism going into the season, the time has come.

With the preseason, we didn’t get to see much of what the Cardinals were going to actually do offensively or defensively this season. So we will all get to see what this year’s team has to offer.
The Lions also have a lot to prove. They weren’t much better than the 3-13 Cardinals, finishing 6-10 season winning in Green Bay 31-0 in week 17.

It’s a new season however, with renewed hope. They might not end up Super Bowl contenders but at least both teams are back at 0-0, so that’s something.

The Cardinals last played the Lions in 2018 at State Farm Stadium. It was by far a pretty game but it never seemed like the Cardinals were in it despite the close score for most of the game.
The Cardinals lost 17-3 thanks to an interception return and a 1-yard fourth quarter touchdown run. Other than that, it was two teams looking like they were ready to end the season.

Now it’s two teams hoping to be on the rise in 2019. The Cardinals will debut quarterback Kyler Murray in Kliff Kingsbury‘s ‘Air Raid’ offense. We will see just how well it works in the NFL.

Detroit may not end up being the best barometer as to whether it ultimately will work in the NFL but they do have a good defense, lead in the middle by linebacker Devon Kennard, Desert Vista High School star and son of former Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Derrick Kennard.
One thing we know, many Cardinals fans will be on the edge of their seats to see what we’ve been waiting for over four months to see since Murray was drafted. Oh, and he has a lot of weapons to play with, including 16-year veteran receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Should be fun!

Both quarterback Kyler Murray and coach Kliff Kingsbury make their NFL regular-season debut against Detroit. Murray was the first-overall pick in the draft and Kingsbury enters after compiling a 35-40 record in six seasons at Texas Tech.

The Lions lead the all-time series with the Cardinals 33-28-5 despite dropping seven-straight meetings between 2006-2015.
