The Dallas Cowboys will begin their 2019 season and quest for a sixth Lombardi this Sunday against who else but the New York Giants. Sunday marks the sixth time in the last eight seasons these storied rivals will face one another to kickoff the season.
Player contract negotiations have dominated Cowboys offseason storylines with new contracts for DeMarcus Lawrence, Jaylon Smith, La’el Collins, and it was capped off with Ezekiel Elliott returning to the team after signing a six-year, $90 million dollar extension, the richest ever for a running back.
The Cowboys seem heavily favored on paper, but things can never be taken for granted with contests between division rivals. Buckle up, because it’s going to be a long season.
The NFL is back.
New York Giants (0-0) vs Dallas Cowboys (0-0)
3:15 p.m. CT, Sunday, September 8th
AT&T Stadium – Arlington, TX
Referee: Walt Anderson
First-time offensive coordinator Kellen Moore will also debut his version of the Cowboys’ offense. Folks have seen glimpses during training cramp, but after a mostly vanilla preseason, it’ll be interesting to see how Moore utilizes the full arsenal of available weapons at his disposal.
The Giants come into AT&T Stadium looking nothing like what we’re accustomed to over the recent seasons. Gone is Odell Beckham Jr. and Olivier Vernon, having both been traded to the Cleveland Browns in an absolute roster decimation over the offseason. It’s certainly clear the Giants are in a transition stage, fully evidenced with the selection of quarterback Daniel Jones sixth overall in the 2019 draft. Though longtime-starter Eli Manning remains the starting quarterback, it’s clear he’s playing on borrowed time.
The Giants still have Saquon Barkley, who is in the conversation with Ezekiel Elliott and Todd Gurley as one of the top three running backs in the entire NFL. In two games against the Cowboys, Barkley had 250 all-purpose yards and one touchdown on 46 touches.

What to Know
The Giants and Dallas will face off at 4:25 p.m. ET Sept. 8 at AT&T Stadium to kick off their 2019 seasons. Last year was nothing to brag about for the Giants (5-11), so the squad is looking forward to a new start. On the other hand, Dallas is coming off a 10-6 season with hopes of advancing further than the second round of the playoffs, where they were eliminated by the Rams 22-30.
Since the experts predict a loss, the Giants will need to dig deep. We’ll soon see whether they can make the experts look bad.
